Women Snowshoe Retreat
This winter weekend retreat is geared towards women between the ages of 21 to 35 who are involved with the deaf and hard of hearing community. A snowshoe hike, skiing/snowboarding, and a pampering session at Aspen Spa and Salons bring together these women.
Winter Camp
Jointly sponsored by AC and Aspen Skiing Company, the Winter Program provide opportunities for deaf and hard of hearing middle school to high school students to develop their skiing and snowboarding skills, gain self-confidence, and to interact with Deaf and Hard of Hearing peers who face similar life challenges.
Summer Camp
In summer, AC hosts deaf and hard of hearing students, ages eight through eighteen, at our site nestled in the Rockies. Our sessions range from a week to three weeks and include outdoor education, backpacking, arts, drama, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, swimming, climbing, challenge course, and leadership development activities all providing opportunities for personal growth.
Our Wilderness Adventure session is geared towards the eight to eleven years of age participants and is the perfect place to introduce a child to the wilderness. The Mountain Bound session welcomes eleven to fourteen year old children and is designed to foster self-growth through a variety of activities that challenge their preconceived limits in physical and mental growth. The Peak Experience session for the high school teenagers develops leadership skills by a true immersion in the wilderness through week-long backpacking trips.
Deaf Chef Apprentice
The Deaf Chef Apprentice Workshop is provided in conjunction with Rock Resorts. This program exposes HS Seniors and College Freshman/Sophomores to the world of careers opportunities in culinary arts. Participants learn about all aspects of culinary arts and interact with top chefs during hands-on demonstrations in the kitchen of a private Aspen residence.
ACE Vocational Training
The new vocational training program is geared towards Deaf and hard of hearing youth between the ages of 16 and 25 that may have multiple disabilities. the primary focus of this program is to empower these youth with independent living skills and outdoor experiences which include but are not limited to: developing confidence, learning vocational and money management skills, understanding how to use current technology specifically for people who are deaf and hard of hearing, perform basic domestic skills (cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc.), investigating possible vocational trades, and complete job readiness training (resume development, interviewing skills, dress, etc.). This program is slated to begin in April of 2010 and will serve up to 40 young adults from across the United States.
Outdoor Education & Challenge Course
During the academic year, Aspen Camp welcomes an influx of local students from the Roaring Fork Valley who take advantage of the lodging and grounds for their annual field trips. The outdoors education program, in conjunction with ACES, allows students to explore the riparian environment, mountain ecosystem, wildlife, and general environmental information as they enjoy two-day overnight trip. The challenge course incorporates outdoors education, building self-esteem, and developing teamwork through high and low ropes courses. A deaf studies class teaches participants basics of sign language and begins their journey of deaf awareness.
Collaborative Programs
Aspen Camp also provides the facilities and support to local non-profits. We provide overnight housing, bedding and other amenities, cooking/dining facilities, ropes course for team-building activities, transportation (vans and bus), program support.
