More About Camp
Spring 2004
Dear Friend,
My name is Jon Feucht and I am a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. I am also a user of the Pathfinder Augmentative Communication device manufactured by the Prentke Romich Company.
It is with tremendous pride and excitement that I write to announce the Fourth Annual Authentic Voices of America Camp. The camp is designed for young people ages 12-21, who rely on augmentative devices as their means of communication.
Those who attend the Authentic Voices Camp will learn how to become more proficient with their devices, will meet and develop friendships with other AAC users and will engage in a number of social and adapted recreational activities. Perhaps most importantly, participants will learn how to use communication boldly and powerfully in order to reach their potential for pursuing successful professional and personal lives. We are assembling a talented and unique staff of professionals, some of whom are AAC users, with wonderful ideas and lots of enthusiasm. Campers will be counseled and mentored by persons with disabilities who are living active, productive lives.
The camp will be held on the campus of UW-Whitewater, situated in Southeastern Wisconsin?s scenic Kettle Moraine region, from July 11-16, 2004 Please e-mail (cesevents@uww.edu) or call (262-472-3165) with any questions about the camp. In order to ensure a high quality experience for all campers, enrollment will be limited to an estimated 15-18 campers. A complete registration packet may be requested via e-mail or telephone.
I sincerely hope that you will consider joining us at the camp. We are building a phenomenal tradition and I am completely confident that you would thoroughly enjoy this unique camp experience. If you are not age-eligible but know someone between the ages of 12-21 and who could benefit from this camp, please pass the information on to them.
One final thought: This camp is committed to providing a valuable experience for AAC users from an AAC user.
