More About Camp
The WI YLF is an opportunity for high school students with disabilities to learn about career options, develop self-advocacy skills, and increase leadership skills by listening to guest speakers with disabilities talk about legislation, careers, assistive technology, independent living, and recreation. Participants spend one day visiting the State Capitol, having lunch with legislators, and spending free time in Madison, WI. Participants are also paired with a mentor who they meet that week and stay in contact with for up to one year. Participants also share with each other in small, working groups to follow up or prepare for large group activities. Each participant develops their own Personal Leadership Plan to keep them focused on their goals once they return home. Participants have a chance to try new things, experience living in a residence hall, and play sports. Participants enjoy a talent show and wrap up the week with a dance. The YLF combines learning and fun with the experience of living on a college campus for a week.
