Many campers receive funding by contacting their local Lions Club for sponsorship. Public and private service agencies also provide funding to some campers. No camper is turned away based on an inability to pay.

We strive to balance each meal with healthy options. Most allergies can be accommodated with prior notice. Those campers that require pureed food can be easily accommodated.
Our camper to counselor ration changes each session to provide maximum support to our campers. Our sessions accommodate all people with special needs and we have specialized sessions for people with Visual Impairments.
More About Camp
The Pennsylvania Lions' Beacon Lodge Camp is a beautiful five hundred and eighty-three acre camp for children and adults with special needs including blindness, deafness, and many other physical and mental challenges. It is nestled in the natural woodlands along the Juniata River of Central Pennsylvania just two miles west of Newton Hamilton, near Mount Union. Beacon Lodge was established in 1948 as a summer camp for blind residents of Pennsylvania. It has grown into a favorite retreat for many people with disabilities as well as a conference center for special groups.
Our sessions typically start on Saturday and vary in length from 6 days to 11 days. The camper to counselor ratio changes each week depending on the needs of our campers. Our highest ration if 6:1 and we are very proud to provide a session with a 1:1 camper to counselor ration for those campers who need total assistance.
