* The tiered pricing system is an "honor system" designed to make camp more affordable and accessible. Tiers 1 & 2 are below the true cost of camp, so we ask that all parents who can afford to pay Tier 1 please do so. All chosen Tiers are confidential and all children receive the same great camp experience regardless of what their family has paid.

Financial Assistance Available

Most campers are subsidized approximately one half the true cost of camp by the Camp Nejeda Foundation.

Financial aid, or "Campership" applications are available through the registration portal. Please submit the completed form and supporting documentation as soon as possible.

Please note:

Your camper must be registered for a program BEFORE applying for financial aid.

The deadline to apply for a Campership is April 15. A complete application includes filling out the form itself AND submitting the supporting documentation. Incomplete submissions will not be considered. Applications will only be accepted after the deadline if funding allows.

Campers may only receive a Campership for just one of our programs; BFF Camp, Family Camp, Day Camp OR Sleep-Away Camp.
You will be asked to tell us how much of the camp fees you are able to pay and for information about your income, household size and any extenuating circumstances. Full or partial campership award decisions are made based on need. The main determinants are:

Receiving SSI, Medicaid or Charity Care for your child, SNAP, TANF or other governmental assistance.

Adjusted gross household income in relation to size of household.

Recent job loss or loss/change in housing.

Newly diagnosed (Jan. 2024 or later) or first-time camper.

Other extenuating circumstances will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Campership Determination Letters are emailed to applicants on a rolling basis as the Financial Aid Committee reviews your completed application.

Camp Nejeda serves flavorful meals of freshly prepared food. During their stay, campers learn how to count carbs and are guided through the process of making food choice decisions just as they do at home.

The camp's dietitian assists with meal planning and provides nutrition education for campers. Our dietitian also works with the camp's chef to meet campers' individual dietary restrictions such as those related to celiac disease and food allergies. We are a peanut-free facility.

Carb counts of mealtime options are distributed to counselors ahead of the meal so campers may estimate what and how much they will eat and therefore, need to bolus for. The counts are also displayed throughout the meal so campers may adjust their decisions and receive coverage for extra carbs.

Located in beautiful Sussex County, New Jersey just 60 miles from New York City and 100 miles from Philadelphia, Camp Nejeda offers something unique to children living with type 1 diabetes and their families; a place where people just get it.

Nejeda is a place where having diabetes is the norm and where there is no need to explain blood sugar testing, finger pricks, insulin injections, ketones, 'lows', boluses or 'carb' counting. Everyone here already understands! This normalizing of their experience combines with both formal and informal educational moments to promote good diabetes management and healthy, active living.

The addition of our Family Camps, Day Camps, Spring and Fall Weekend programs and Survive and Thrive program offered throughout the year, expands the empowering fellowship and educational opportunities for individuals with type 1 diabetes of all ages and their families.
