Family Weekend

Family weekends provide diabetes education, nutrition education, psycho-social support, and a chance for kids, parents, and grandparents to get to know their doctor outside of the hospital setting. Family weekends allow kids with diabetes and their siblings to meet new friends, as well as given their parents the chance to do the same. These events prepare kids for the summer camp experience, and teach the whole family, that together, they can handle diabetes.

Welcome to PeeWee Camp at Rotary's Camp Florida, a magical six-day journey designed for our youngest campers aged 5 to 9. Nestled near Tampa, this camp is a gateway for little adventurers to experience the joy of summer camp, forge lasting friendships, and embrace the great outdoors.

From nature explorations and swimming lessons to creative arts and crafts, each day is packed with experiences that spark curiosity and joy. Evening carnival events and storytelling moments add to the camp's enchanting atmosphere, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Join us for an enriching experience that combines joy, learning, and personal growth in a nurturing community.

Fun Sports Camp
Our Sports Camp, a dynamic six-day program based in Tampa, caters to young athletes aged 15-18, offering an exciting blend of sports, teamwork, and diabetes management education. Campers reside at Rotary's Camp Florida in Brandon, FL, and travel daily to various Tampa Bay area venues, including high schools, community colleges, and universities, which generously provide their top-notch facilities and coaching staff for our sports clinics and games.

Participants have the opportunity to engage in a wide array of sports, from basketball, volleyball, soccer, and tennis to golf, baseball, water skiing, and more, under the expert guidance of college coaches and certified instructors. Evening activities add to the camp's allure, with roller skating, bowling, and even a night out at Tropicana Field to watch the Tampa Bay Rays, ensuring the fun never stops.

Teen Sports Camp aims to involve campers in their diabetes management, promoting independence in diabetes care crucial for their transition to college and beyond. Foster enduring friendships and mentorships, encourage a lifelong passion for sports, and nurture the independence needed for future success. Join us for an empowering summer where sportsmanship and health go hand in hand!

Sam Fuld T1D Sports Camp
The Sam Fuld T1D Sports Weekend inspires young athletes ages 8 to 17 to pursue their passion for sports while learning to manage diabetes successfully. Campers choose from sports like basketball, soccer, and golf, with each activity led by experienced coaches and athletes with T1D. Educational sessions focus on integrating diabetes management into athletic routines, providing practical strategies for staying active and healthy. The program fosters a sense of camaraderie and determination, encouraging campers to overcome challenges and achieve their goals on and off the field.

Bring-A-Friend Weekend
Our special "Bring a Friend" Weekend invites children aged 5 to 11, especially those new to overnight camping, for a fun-filled introductory experience. This unique weekend allows campers to share the adventure with a friend, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable first-time camp experience. Together, they'll dive into exciting activities like swimming, various land sports, and creative arts and crafts.

This weekend isn't just about fun; it's also an educational journey. Kids with diabetes gain vital self-management skills, while their friends gain insights into the daily life of someone managing diabetes, fostering understanding and empathy. Led by our expert team of pediatric endocrinologists, nurses, dietitians, and mental health professionals, every session is designed to be informative, supportive, and, most importantly, fun!

Financial Assistance Available

Florida Diabetes Camp has established a Campership Eligibility Policy to outline the criteria for awarding financial assistance. This policy is designed to help families facing financial challenges, allowing their children to participate in our specialized T1D camp. FDC may also offer Camperships to newly diagnosed campers under specific conditions. Applications for Camperships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, with limited funds. A $25 deposit is required for all campers to confirm their registration. Families can apply for assistance during the registration process via CampMinder or by requesting a paper application.

Our overnight summer camps give children and teens with type 1 diabetes the full camp experience every child deserves, including swimming, boating, outdoor adventures, friendship, and independence, all within a safe, medically supported environment. With age-based programs designed to build confidence, self-care skills, and lasting memories, campers experience the joy of childhood surrounded by peers who truly understand them.

Our weekend programs provide children, teens, and families with meaningful opportunities throughout the year to experience connection, adventure, and support in shorter, accessible programs. From family weekends to teen retreats and first-time camper experiences, each program combines fun, community, and expert medical care to help campers continue growing with confidence.
